‘Interesting cities can’t be quiet”, runs one of grime DJ and music industry thinker Elijah’s epigrams – and in its essential spirit, he is right. Silent, tidy, prim cities should be treated with suspicion. Any such atmosphere denotes that something has gone wrong at a macro level: either you’ve wound up in an authoritarian regime or, worse, Switzerland.

But not all urban sounds are created equal, and some are more unwelcome than others. Take the tide of (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube) reels crashing on the shores of our collective attention on public transport, thanks to the astonishing number of grown adults who think it’s OK to surf the slopwave without headphones.

Russia says it is at war not just with Ukraine, but the “collective west”. Accordingly, it carries out a number of hostile actions against the UK and EU countries. They include sabotage (undersea cables, bombs on cargo planes), disinformation and support for pro-Russian Eurosceptic parties (AFD in Germany, Reform in Britain, etc.)

Last year Moscow sent a swarm of decoy drones into Poland, to probe Nato’s defences. European leaders are generally reluctant to describe the Kremlin’s acts as war, preferring to use the qualifier “hybrid”. For now Putin is bogged down in Ukraine. In the meantime, Russia’s diversionary behaviour will continue. I wouldn’t rule out some kind of military “provocation”, probably limited in scope, against a Nato country.

He’s safe. There was much speculation around the time of the full-scale invasion that Putin was sick and possibly dying. This turned out to be wishful thinking. Similarly, there is little prospect of a palace coup or popular revolution in Russia. The reality is Putin will stay in power for life. Most people support him, state propaganda is as potent as ever, and the security services keep a close eye on dissent. Many of those who oppose him left the country in 2022. The majority are passive and fatalistic. The fate of Alexey Navalny - murdered in a Siberian gulag in 2024, likely on Putin’s orders - sent its own grim message.

A Sydney man convicted of writing “Fuk Israel” on cars and setting another vehicle alight has had his release on parole rejected a second time, despite a supreme court judge stating the case appeared to be a “serious miscarriage of justice”.

Mohommed Farhat, 22, was initially due to be released on parole in December after serving 10 months in prison following the November 2024 vandalism in Woollahra.

Меня зовут Михаил Емельянов, я ведущий разработчик в НЛМК ИТ. Команда, в которой я состою, занимается разработкой и поддержкой различных корпоративных информационных систем на базе Битрикс24.

Сегодня я хочу поговорить о разработке сервисов бронирования. Они используются повсеместно - от медицинских центров и отелей, до внутренних активностей в компаниях. На старте мы, как и многие, пользовались готовыми решениями. Это позволяло быстро закрыть потребность, но при этом нам осложняли жизнь некоторые системные недостатки:

- Юридические нюансы: обработка персональных данных по требованиям 152‑ФЗ и внутренних политик безопасности. Стороннему сервису не всегда можно передать всё, что нужно, а иногда это прямо запрещено.

- Стоимость: даже одно недельное мероприятие обходилось достаточно дорого.

- Процессные ограничения: неудобно быстро менять расписание «на лету» во время мероприятия, неидеальная логика резервирования времени приводила к редким, но болезненным коллизиям.

В какой-то момент стало очевидно, что выгоднее и надёжнее собрать собственный сервис, который на 100% соответствует нашим процессам, не создает юридических рисков и при этом окупается в среднесрочной перспективе.

У нашей лаборатории была узкая задача — разработать молекулярный щит на лицо. Чтобы создать жертвенный слой электронов для активных форм кислорода. Нужно это для того, чтобы кожа не становилась тусклой. Денег в этой области закопано довольно много, «молекулярный щит» и другие слова там никого не удивляют.

Если обычные задачи типа «давайте уберём зуд от комара» или «давайте сделаем гель для УЗИ с хорошими акустическими свойствами» в целом более-менее понятны потребителям, то тут всё пошло не так.

Оказалось, у тестеров в альфа- и бета-группах и у конечных пользователей очень много вопросов. И простым объяснением тут не отделаться.

Поэтому давайте разберёмся с тем, что вообще делает кислород опасным для нас, почему много кислорода может пригодиться в старости, но чем за это придётся заплатить. И что это за звери антиоксиданты и как они реально работают.

Реально, а не у маркетологов в их влажных фантазиях.

Там интересно примерно всё: начиная от того, как доставлять антиоксиданты внутрь вашего организма по месту, и заканчивая тем, как они друг друга восстанавливают.

Так что я начну с начала, с того, зачем нам вообще металлические ловушки в крови для захвата кислорода.

В 2022 году компания Thales, производитель платёжных HSM, официально ушла с российского рынка, и наш банк столкнулся с необходимостью импортозамещения этой части критической информационной инфраструктуры. Платёжные HSM (Hardware Security Module) — это такие железки, которые обеспечивают функционирование процессингового центра и криптографическую защиту данных держателя карты и банковских транзакций. 

Нам нужно было перевести платёжную инфраструктуру банка на отечественные HSM, не останавливая сервисы. Расскажу, как мы это сделали и с какими задачами столкнулись по ходу.

Я пишу на Хабре, в основном, про старое железо и игры, но периодически появляются статьи по моей основной специализации - интернет-рекламе и аналитике. 

Август для меня традиционно пора проведения аудитов сайтов и кабинетов контекстной рекламы Яндекс.Директ. Поток писем и звонков с вопросами идет волнами.

Что интересно, до сих пор довольно большая часть корпоративных сайтов все еще не соответствуют требованиям Федерального закона от 27.07.2006 № 152-ФЗ «О персональных данных». А подавляющая доля тех, кто работает с контекстной рекламой, не знает о том, что Яндекс включает новые опции и инструменты автоматически, и сильно удивляются, почему проседает поток лидов.

Google has put artificial intelligence at the front and center of its search bar. The most-visited site on the internet still shows the same list of links to users, but they have to scroll past a summarized response from an AI chatbot, a feature Google calls AI Overviews. The change to what was once the gateway to the rest of the internet has been profound, and the browsing habits of billions of people are shifting.

“AI is driving the most significant upgrade of the Google Search experience ever,” Liz Reid, Google’s vice-president of search, wrote last August. In May, the company said more AI is coming.

(Like all the characters, she never gets beyond a stereotype.) Her research is bankrolled by a big pharma company, whose CEO is played by Saffron Burrows (now seemingly mandatory casting for ropey British thrillers).

The historic harbour is the hub of this working East Neuk fishing port, home to a fleet of about 30 small trawlers and creel boats. Barbara Cartland was famous for dictating her novels. With a pekingese clamped to her hot pink bosom she would lie back on a library couch and exhale a story about virginal girls taming wayward dukes, damaged airmen or misunderstood surgeons. Meanwhile Miss Savory, Mrs Smith or Mrs Morgan, picked for being unfidgety and sneezeless, would take everything down in immaculate Pitman shorthand. Cartland reckoned on being able to polish off 8,000 words a day. “In this way,” she told one of the many reporters who quizzed her on her astonishing productivity, “the typescript for an 80,000-word novel is finished in a fortnight.” At her peak she was pushing out 23 books a year which added up to 723 in total. Only Agatha Christie and William Shakespeare topped her lifetime sales of 750m.

Cartland was a dictator in other ways, too. Husbands, dogs, houses and the local council were all expected to bend themselves to her indomitable will. Resistance, let alone opposition, was futile. The managing director of the company that printed her books suggested that she read Nietzsche on the perceptive grounds that they had a lot of ideas in common. Oddly, he also declared himself madly in love with her. Behind that marshmallowy exterior, all pink chiffon, candyfloss hair and soft, smudgy lines, there lurked sinews of high-tensile steel.

Bathla Group says softening sales and impacts from federal government’s May budget contributed it being placed in voluntary administration

Embattled home builder Bathla Group has been placed into voluntary administration, leaving customers in limbo in what it says is a “perfect storm” of circumstances.

It joins the long list of Australian residential builders and property developers which have entered voluntary administration or liquidation due to soaring material costs, labour shortages and fixed-price contracts.

В этой статье мы расскажем, как итеративно настраивали обвязку (harness) Deep Agents под особенности GigaChat: правили промпты и описания инструментов, а часть правил зашивали прямо в код, и как сделали для этого открытый бенчмарк harness-bench-fast, чтобы измерять прогресс. На зафиксированном сете из 391 задачи подключение профиля подняло долю решённых задач с 77,2% до 87,0%, а расход токенов сократило практически вдвое.

Каждый разработчик сталкивался с проблемой хранения артефактов: Docker-образы, npm-пакеты, Maven-артефакты, Python wheels. Вариантов обычно два — использовать публичные реестры (Docker Hub, npmjs.org, PyPI) или поднимать Nexus / Artifactory / Harbor. Публичные реестры ненадёжны из-за rate limit и блокировок. А Nexus и Artifactory — это тяжёлая Java-платформа: JVM, отдельная СУБД (OrientDB/PostgreSQL), 2–4 ГБ RAM уже в простое и десятки минут на старт.

NORA — open-source реестр артефактов на Rust, созданный как прямая альтернатива этим гигантам. Вместо Java-стека — один бинарник < 27 МБ. Вместо 2–4 ГБ RAM — < 50 МБ в простое, т.е. на порядок меньше. Вместо десятков минут на старт — 3 секунды. Внешних зависимостей нет вообще: ни Java 11+, ни отдельной СУБД — метаданные хранятся на файловой системе, а артефакты сразу можно отправлять в S3, чего бесплатные версии Nexus и Artifactory не умеют. При этом поддерживается 15 форматов: Docker, Maven, npm, PyPI, Cargo, Go, Raw, RubyGems, Terraform, Ansible Galaxy, NuGet, Pub (Dart/Flutter), Conan (C/C++), RPM (yum/dnf), Debian/APT. Плюс Helm-чарты через OCI, карантин свежих пакетов (Min Release Age), блокировка уязвимых версий (CVE Blocking) и лицензия MIT.

Dating website eHarmony engaged in misleading and deceptive conduct over subscription traps that cost thousands of customers hundreds of dollars each, the federal court has found.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) sued the US-based eHarmony in 2023 over claims of providing free dating on its platform, and the information consumers were given on subscription costs and renewal terms when buying a premium subscription.
