Syrians have protested over the death of a man who was arrested and allegedly beaten by security forces, sparking widespread anger at a practice thought to have ended with the fall of Bashar al-Assad.

A crowd gathered in the city of Aleppo, demanding accountability for the security forces who are alleged to have carried out the torture, with participants holding signs and slogans such as: “Do not repeat the same oppression that we revolted against.” Protests were also planned to take place in front of Syria’s parliament in Damascus on Tuesday, as well.

JVM memory optimizations by default

With JVM memory optimizations now enabled by default, the Toolbox App helps the JVM use memory more efficiently in all operating systems. The new configuration tunes memory management, code-cache behavior, and garbage collection without requiring setup. See TBX-18852 for more details.

Fixed compatibility with Windows Smart App Control

The Toolbox App now launches correctly when Windows Smart App Control is enabled. See TBX-18777 for more details.

Patch update improvements on macOS 

Some JetBrains IDEs write runtime files inside their macOS app bundle. When you install a patch update, the Toolbox App now verifies the updated bundle’s code signature and removes files that are not sealed by the new build. If the bundle still fails verification, the Toolbox App downloads a clean copy. See TBX-18856 for more details.

Session expiration improvement

If you’ve experienced “session has expired” notifications, please try the Toolbox App 3.7 update. We’ve addressed one possible cause (temporary network interruption), and we’d appreciate a report if the problem persists for you.

The JetBrains Toolbox App team

Based on the Developer Ecosystem Survey 2026, the tenth edition of our large-scale, globally representative study run by the Strategic Research and Market Intelligence team.

This post picks up where our previous report on the adoption of the main AI coding tools left off in April 2026.

We recently ran the Developer Ecosystem Survey 2026 – a large-scale, globally representative survey of more than 15,000 professional developers worldwide, currently in its tenth year. This data provides a broad spectrum of insights into developers’ toolkits, practices, technologies, and attitudes.

We see AI coding agents actively carving out a place in developers’ toolkits, gaining traction and adoption across the industry. As of May–July 2026, 90% of professional developers were using AI coding agents at work at least weekly in one form or another (local agents or remote cloud agents), with 68% using them daily.

AI coding agents: Key adoption trends

Claude Code has continued to grow at an unprecedented pace, becoming by far the most widely adopted AI coding tool at work. It is used twice as often as GitHub Copilot, a former long-standing leader of the market that brought AI-assisted coding into the spotlight in 2023.

In May–July 2026, around 39% of professional developers worldwide were using Claude Code at work, up from 18% in January 2026. In the United States, its adoption is even higher at 47% – thus, almost half of US developers are using Claude Code at work. Moreover, it is becoming the main AI coding tool in developers’ AI toolkit at a much higher rate. Claude Code is the most used AI coding tool for 31% of developers, which signifies an almost 80% conversion rate (from regular usage at work to being the single most used tool).

Codex is rapidly catching up, showing adoption growth of roughly 5x, from just 3% in January 2026 to 16% in May–July 2026. However, the leap in product awareness might be even more impressive. In January 2026, only 27% of developers worldwide had heard about Codex despite the huge OpenAI brand behind it, while by May–July 2026 that number had risen to 65%.

GitHub Copilot has lost its leadership, experiencing a decline from 29% adoption a year ago to 21% in May–July 2026. However, it is still one of the most widely known tools on the market, with 79% mind share (awareness) among developers. This metric is even higher in Europe, the UK, and the US, sitting at 86%–90%. Also, according to the Developer Ecosystem Survey 2026, 39% of GitHub Copilot users use it, among other surfaces, in JetBrains IDEs.

Although Cursor has gained some mind share (from 69% in January to 75% in May–July), it has experienced a small decline in adoption, from 18% in January to 12% in May–July. The biggest drop in adoption occurred in China, where it was used by 28% developers in January and by only 16% in May–July 2026.

OpenCode – the open-source coding agent – has reached 7% adoption. Even more remarkably, it enjoys a 42% mindshare among developers worldwide without a big company name behind it.

Google Antigravity is stable in terms of adoption (6%) amid a significant leap in awareness: from 29% in January to 47% in May–July 2026. India is continuing to be Antigravity’s stronghold, where it is practically tied as the third most-popular AI coding tool, on par with Cursor: 15% of developers in India use Antigravity at work, up from 10% in January 2026.

JetBrains AI
As AI coding agents become a standard part of developers’ workflows, JetBrains AI are also seeing adoption, with around 9% of developers worldwide using JetBrains AI in IDEs and/or Junie at work.

Moreover, Claude Agent, Codex, GitHub Copilot, and OpenCode are integrated directly into the AI chat of JetBrains IDEs, and dozens of other agents, including Cursor, can be added via the Agent Client Protocol (ACP). You can even use Codex via your OpenAI API key or ChatGPT subscription.

JetBrains is also expanding its agentic ecosystem. Air – an agentic development environment currently in preview – lets developers combine multiple coding agents in one coherent workflow, while JetBrains Central provides a unified control and execution plane for managing agent-driven development across tools and environments.

Methodology notes

In this report, “professional developers” refers to respondents who reported being involved in coding or programming in any of the following job roles:

• Developer / Programmer / Software Engineer
• AI / ML Engineer
• DevOps Engineer / Infrastructure Developer
• Architect
• Data Scientist / Engineer / Analyst
• QA Engineer

Roughly 90% of the sample falls into the Developer / Programmer / Software Engineer job category.

The Developer Ecosystem and AI Pulse surveys are localized into eight languages: English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, French, and Portuguese. We apply quotas on the required number of responses by region to help achieve accurate global representation. The quotas are proportionate to the number of developers in each region, based on estimates by our Data Science team. The detailed methodology of these estimates is described here.

The Developer Ecosystem Survey has been statistically reweighted to better represent the global developer population by region, employment status, programming language, and familiarity with JetBrains products. От автора: К истории космонавтики у меня особое отношение. Я провёл детство в Советском Союзе, читал в журнале «Наука и жизнь» публикации об экспедиции «Вега» и американских «Викингах», размышлял об интерпретации их биологических экспериментов, с замиранием сердца следил за полётами «Фобоса‑1» и «Фобоса‑2» и собирал посвящённые им газетные вырезки. The San Francisco-based company says ChatGPT for Teens, which launches on Tuesday, is tailored for children aged 13 to 17 with stronger protections including content restrictions around things such as suicide, self-harm and romantic or sexual chats. It also provides homework and study support designed to help students learn rather than spit out answers and school essays.

Уже лет 10 я пользуюсь Everything от VoidTools, и наслаждаюсь. Вся навигация в машине - поиск - только через него. Единственное что он не умеет делать быстро - искать в файлах по содержимому.

Не в первый раз недавно посмотрел на DocFetcher, и стал он вдруг “LocalInet feat DocFetcher”.

Первый подход к локальному поиску на индексаторах я делал 10 лет назад. Нашел тогда на торрентах DtSearch, СopernicDesktopSearch, YandexDesktop, DVYGUN Smart Search, потестил многое, но ничего нормально не работало. DtSearch и YandexDesktop были лучшими, но кряков не хотелось, и даже DtSearch был не очень стабильным, а YandexDesktop был очень быстр и бесплатен, но был нестабильным совсем, и был яндексом заброшен. Что значит не очень стабильным ? Оказалось, в рабочем архиве у меня 5 млн. файлов) А все хранилище целиком потянет на 10-15( Ни один индексатор не мог собрать индекс(

Полгода назад по случаю вайбкодил поисковые питон скрипты, и обратил внимание, что одного поиска мне мало: их должно быть два: Один поиск ищет последовательность key1 key2 key3, в порядке строго 123, и ключи там строго фиксированные. Это поиск программиста, когда он ищет кусок в программе.

И второй поиск, те же самые key1 key2 key3 - но тут ключи в произвольном порядке, важна лишь дистанция между ними. Она должна быть небольшой, чтобы гарантировать, что ключи относятся друг к другу, тогда в этом куске текста весьма вероятно будет то что нужно. При этом и ключи и индекс должны быть стеммизированные, те, поиск должен искать корни слов, а всякие окончания должны быть отрезаны. Иначе много нужных match потеряется. Этот второй поиск - поиск в книге.

1.1. Последний биологический ограничитель власти

В истории человечества существовал один ограничитель власти, который не зависел ни от конституций, ни от качества институтов, ни от доброй воли самого правителя.

Можно было уничтожить политических противников, изменить законы, поставить под контроль армию, суды и информационное пространство. Можно было создать династию и передать наследникам имущество, связи и влияние. Но существовало обстоятельство, с которым не могла справиться ни одна политическая система: естественный биологический предел человеческой жизни.

Смерть правителя сама по себе, конечно, никогда не гарантировала свободы. Иногда одного деспота сменял другой. Иногда политическая конструкция переживала своего создателя практически без изменений. И всё же происходило нечто фундаментальное: менялись люди. Возникала необходимость заново распределять влияние, заключать союзы, договариваться с новыми группами, приспосабливаться к новому поколению. Даже самая закрытая политическая система не могла полностью остановить эту ротацию.

В этом смысле биология выполняла странную, но важную функцию системного предохранителя.

Она не обеспечивала прогресс. Она лишь не позволяла одному человеку удерживать историческое время в своих руках бесконечно.

Известную мысль Макса Планка о том, что новые научные идеи часто побеждают не потому, что удаётся убедить их противников, а потому, что меняются поколения, можно с определённой осторожностью перенести и на политику.

Год назад мой типичный пулл-реквест писался руками часа три и ревьюился минут двадцать. Сейчас четыреста строк агент выдаёт за минуту, а ревью того же дифа занимает час: приходится вычитывать уверенно написанный чужой код, в котором ошибка выглядит ровно так же убедительно, как правильное решение. Узкое место переехало с набора кода на его проверку, и усилием воли оно не расширяется.

В августе у Google вышел текст о том, почему Go хорошо подходит для разработки с агентами. С тезисами спорить трудно: единый форматтер, быстрая компиляция, строгий компилятор, большая стандартная библиотека, обещание совместимости. Беда в том, что из этих тезисов не следует ни одной строчки конфига. Хорошие свойства языка сами по себе не мешают агенту сдать диф, который собирается, проходит тесты и при этом делает совсем другое.

Дальше о том, как довести идею до инженерного состояния. Почему форма сообщения об ошибке влияет на исход правки сильнее, чем формулировка промпта. Какие поломки Go пропускает молча и чем их ловить. Как за полчаса написать свой анализатор, превращающий договорённость команды в ошибку сборки. И чем закончились попытки закрыть тот же вопрос документом AGENTS.md. Всё обкатано на монорепозитории примерно на сто восемьдесят тысяч строк, где за последний квартал около половины дифов написал агент.

Boxing champion says he will raise their daughter, Kaya, to remember the late actor’s ‘immense talent’

Hayden Panettiere’s daughter will be raised to remember her mother’s “immense talent” and “incredible career”, according to a tribute posted on social media on Tuesday by Wladimir Klitschko, the ex-lineal world heavyweight boxing champion and the late Hollywood actor’s former partner.

Their daughter, Kaya, has been raised by the Ukrainian retired boxer since 2018, when Panettiere ceded full custody to concentrate on her battles with alcoholism, depression and substance abuse.

Я нечасто работаю с IT компаниями, но 6 моих  IT компаний-клиентов, да и общая информация об IT позволила мне сложить впечатление, что люди в IT отличаются от других.
В IT больше Синих людей по классификации Клера Грейвса, то есть людей склонных к более аналитической деятельности и восприятию мира через факты, но не через эмоции. При этом у них есть свои особенности с коммуникациями; они лучше общаются письменно и не готовы общаться с незнакомыми людьми не по делу.
Для меня это было очевидно, да и для многих тоже, именно поэтому я так удивился, когда тут на linkedin прочитал пост о том, что senior'а чуть не уволили из компании так как у него были проблемы с внешней коммуникацией. Его даже назвали senior со звездочкой, типа с проблемой.
И у меня тут возникает два вопроса.
Первый вопрос: кто эти руководители в IT, которые оценивают senior по коммукативным навыкам выше его профессиональных навыков, что готовы были уволить такого сотрудника, который в условиях, когда его не гнобили за плохое общение, показал выдающиеся результаты, потому что ему наконец-то дали возможность работать.
И второй вопрос. Какой смысл развивать в сотруднике то, что у него не является принципиально важным для работы, в ущерб развития наиболее перспективных качеств, где он реально может быть эффективным.
Стратегия Голубого океана как раз заключается в развитии сильных качеств, при этом про слабые качества просто знают и учитывают, без попытки их изменить.
Стратегия Голубого океана отлично работает для бизнеса, почему не использовать её идею и для людей.

Bonnier Books will no longer publish UK’s top-selling true crime author following Guardian investigation

The main publisher of the bestselling true crime writer Christopher Berry-Dee has dropped the author after a Guardian investigation into allegations of violence and sexual abuse against him, which he denies. Waterstones has also removed his books from sale.

“We are shocked and appalled by the very serious allegations relating to Christopher Berry-Dee, and our thoughts are with those affected,” said the publisher Bonnier Books in a statement to the Guardian.
