Trump Accounts for Kids Are Now Live. Here's Everything Parents Need to Know
President Donald Trump on Monday rang the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq to mark the first trading day of the newly-launched “Trump Accounts” for children.
"With the ringing of the opening bell for the stock market, those accounts will now begin to grow right along with our booming economy, and I really believe we’re going to have the biggest boom of all,” Trump said, as he rang the bell remotely from the Oval Office.
“Between individual contributions and the seed funds, $800 million in new capital will be invested in the stock market for America's children this week,” he added.
Trump was joined in the Oval Office by Michael and Susan Dell, who committed $6.25 billion towards funding the program last year.
The highly-anticipated initiative, officially launched on July 4 as part of America's 250th celebrations, will see eligible newborns receive an account with a one-time $1,000 government-funded payment.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the families of 6 million children have already signed up, with 1.4 million of those qualifying for the seed money.
With American families curious as to how they might benefit from the Trump Accounts, here’s what you need to know:
What is a Trump Account?
According to government legislation, Trump Accounts are a new form of a traditional investment retirement account (IRA) that have been created for the benefit of children, with special rules applying.
Once opened, an eligible account will automatically receive a one-time, tax-free $1,000 contribution from the federal government. The funds, plus any further contributions, will be automatically invested in an index fund that tracks the S&P 500, which itself tracks the performance of the top 500 U.S. companies trading on the stock market.
Contributions to Trump Accounts will be invested into the State Street SPDR Portfolio S&P 500 ETF, according to the Treasury. This will remain as the default index for funds to be invested in over the coming months, but the Treasury said that it expects to make other investment options available for parents and guardians in the near future.
The accounts are listed in the child’s name, with parents acting as the sole custodian until the child is 18.
Funds within an account cannot be accessed until the child turns 18, when they can then be withdrawn for qualified expenses such as education or the purchase of a first home.
The Trump Administration has confirmed that it will allow philanthropist contributions towards the program through public company stock. Contributors can transfer stock to the Treasury, which will then invest the funds into accounts in line with the donator’s guidelines.
“By accepting contributions of publicly traded stock, [the] Treasury is creating a practical pathway for large-scale private giving to support the next generation,” said Bessent on July 2.
Does your baby qualify for a $1000 Trump Account—and what do you need to do?
Babies that are U.S. citizens born between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2028 are eligible to receive the one-time government seed contribution of $1,000 in their account. This timeframe falls within Trump’s second term in office.
In order to set up a Trump Account for eligible children, parents or guardians must submit an IRS Form 4547. This can be done via the Trump Accounts app, when filing taxes, or through the IRS website, Individual Online Accounts.
A maximum of $5,000 overall can be contributed to each account annually from parents, other family and friends, and the employers of parents and guardians. Most contributions will be taxed, but employers can provide up to $2,500 a year, tax-free (per employee, not per child). State and local governments can also make tax-free contributions.
Companies including Goldman Sachs, BlackRock, and Nasdaq, have pledged to match the federal seed contribution of $1,000 for eligible accounts of children of employees.
Semi-conductor manufacturer Micron has also announced an employee matching benefit for contributions up to $1,000 per child under 18. Additionally, Micron said it will provide a community benefit of a one-time $250 seed deposit for children with Trump Accounts where the company operates in Idaho, New York, Virginia, California, Colorado, Minnesota, and Texas.
“This massive investment will help millions of American children and families get a strong start in life, and give them real financial security,” said Trump in response to the contribution. “My policies are working, and working ‘big.’”
How much could a Trump Account accumulate?
Without any investment beyond the initial $1,000, the Administration estimates a Trump Account account would be valued at $6,000 when the child turns 18, based on historical S&P 500 averages. With the maximum annual contribution of $5,000, accounts could see a value of up to $271,000 after 18 years.
“Trump Accounts level the playing field by allowing every parent to invest in their children’s future, not just wealthy families with trust funds,” a Treasury spokesperson told TIME on Monday.
Experts have, however, raised concerns that the initiative could disproportionately benefit well-off Americans.
“The program may be open to every child, but its benefits will flow overwhelmingly to families with the means to contribute thousands of dollars a year,” argued Stanford economists Neale Mahoney and Adam Shaw in an article for TIME. "What could have been a leveling tool instead risks becoming a widening wedge between the haves and the have-nots."
Are older children eligible for payments?
Older children born before Jan. 1, 2025, will not be eligible for the one-off $1,000 government payment, but can still open up a Trump Account.
To qualify, the child must be a U.S. citizen with a Social Security number, and the account must be opened before the end of the year in which the child reaches the age of 18.
Children under the age of 10 may also benefit from contributions offered by high-profile philanthropists.
In December 2025, the Dells pledged $6.25 billion for the accounts, giving an additional $250 to the first 25 million accounts registered for children aged 10 and under, living in ZIP codes with a median household income of under $150,000 annually.
Ray Dalio, investor and the founder of Bridgewater Associates, and his wife Barbara also committed to providing $250 to 300,000 children under 10 in Connecticut who live in ZIP codes where the median income is less than $150,000.

За последние полгода мне довелось использовать AI практически во всех своих проектах. В какой-то момент я поймал себя на мысли, что почти перестал писать код руками. Именно тогда я задумался: действительно ли ИИ заменит программистов или мы просто неправильно понимаем, что именно сейчас происходит с нашей профессией?
Я скорее всего буду не первым кто тут размышляет на эту тему, но все же мне кажется что у меня есть что сказать и я бы хотел обсудить публично.
Все мы наблюдаем как меняется индустрия и что уже много вакансий в IT становятся не актуальными. Да многие говорят что это ИИ пузырь и он скоро лопнет, и мы придем и все исправим что написал ИИ. НО мне кажется это не так. Обратной дороги нет, мы вступаем на новую дорогу. Компании максимально ужимают бюджеты, наем junior программистов потерял совсем смысл. Череда сокращений уже прошла, и сейчас компании после первого бума ИИ пытаются понять как теперь строить команды и оптимизировать бюджеты. Но как мне кажется есть важная деталь, которую все упускают. И эта деталь звучит примерно так: ИИ это эффективный инструмент в руках квалифицированного программиста. И здесь речь идет не только о программировании, так же и дизайн и доставка кода, организация всех процессов.

Лично у меня возникла несколько другая ассоциация - удобный интерфейс технологий... Вот это вот самое дерево технологий, когда ты чётко понимаешь, что и за чем тебе нужно изучить, чтобы прийти к конечной цели. Какие навыки идут за какими, что можно пока проигнорировать... Согласитесь - было бы удобно, если бы так же было бы и... например, с изучением кибербеза?
Так вот, я решил заморочиться и собрать свой роадмап. Да, я знаю, что существует много разных вариантов (привет и респект, Диме). Но у меня было своё видение)
И вот, на днях я закончил основной этап - его отрисовку! 2300 терминов из разных доменов ИБ, 11 готовых треков (пока сыроваты, но об этом ниже) и возможность создавать свои. Возможность сравнить свои навыки с "базовым минимумом" разных направлений и разные направления друг с другом... Короче, я попытался объять необъятное. Насколько получилось - судить вам)

Trump Reignites Tensions With Meloni Ahead of NATO Summit
United States President Donald Trump on Sunday evening shared a social media post featuring Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, reopening a recent dispute between the two leaders ahead of this week’s NATO Summit in Turkey.
Trump posted an image on Truth Social that shows Meloni looking up at the American President, with the words “restraining order needed” printed across the top.
The Italian Prime Minister has not yet publicly responded to the post, but some of her top officials were openly dismissive on Monday.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani told an Italian news channel, “We are convinced that transatlantic relations go far beyond individual statements.” Interior Minister Matteo Salvini told reporters he “won’t comment on these things anymore.” Guido Crosetto, the nation’s Defense Minister, said he “didn’t react at all” to Trump’s post and that he was more focused on maintaining Italy’s relationship with a “vital ally like the U.S.”
"People come and go, but relationships remain," he said.
The post rekindles tensions between the two leaders that have been simmering for months. While Meloni, who is up for reelection in 2027, was once considered a close ally of the American President—and was even dubbed “Europe’s Trump Whisperer”—but has distanced herself from him in recent months.

Things escalated last month, when Trump told an Italian broadcaster that Meloni “begged” him to take a photo with her during the G7 Summit—and that he only agreed to do so because he “felt sorry” for her.
He went on to criticize Meloni in a Truth Social post, saying, “She is doing poorly in Italy with her level of popularity, possibly because she turned down the United States of America, a Country that truly loves and protects Italy, when it came to denying Iran from obtaining or developing a Nuclear Weapon.”
“She wouldn’t even let us use Italy’s landing strips or runways, a great logistical inconvenience, and this despite the fact the U.S. contributes hundreds of Billions of Dollars a year to protect Italy, and other ‘so-called’ NATO Allies,” he continued. “Now, after the United States defeated Iran militarily, she wants to be friends again in order to get her ‘numbers up.’ No thanks!!!”
Recent polling indicates that most Italians harbor negative feelings toward Trump and are concerned about the U.S.-Israel war in Iran.
Meloni fired back at Trump in a video she shared on X in June, saying that Trump’s comments “are completely fabricated” and that she was “stunned” by his behavior.
“I don’t know why the President of the United States behaves this way toward his own allies. After all, this isn’t the first time this has happened," she said. She did not specify what other instances she was referring to. Trump has previously lambasted leaders of other allied nations, including Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“There’s one thing he must remember: Italy and I do not beg,” Meloni continued in her video message last month.
Both Trump and Meloni are expected to travel to Ankara for the NATO Summit, which will take place July 7-8.

The whiff of unfulfilment lingers around Belgium. The Golden Generation – and the fact it never quite achieved what it might have done – has dominated coverage of their last three tournaments. This perhaps isn’t quite fair – either on those who were part of that group or those who have followed.
Beating Brazil in the quarter-final to reach the semi-final in Russia 2018 was a fine achievement, but that side featuring Vincent Kompany, Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois, Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne then lost 1-0 to France in the semi. The squad was good enough to win a tournament, but that was as close as they came. Courtois, Lukaku, De Bruyne, Axel Witsel and the right-back Thomas Meunier have all endured since 2018. The 2026 Belgium squad is not, as 2022 felt, the Golden Generation redux, just a little bit older and a little bit more tired. A new wave is emerging and, while the likes of Leandro Trossard, Youri Tielemans, Jérémy Doku and Charles De Ketelaere may not have quite the star quality of the previous generation, they’re still decent players – perhaps not World Cup winners, but certainly not to be dismissed. And remember, this is Belgium, a country of just under 12 million; it’s not realistic to think it can consistently produce potential world champions.
